Introducing Tesla Powerwall 3

The original Tesla Powerwall was a game changer for home energy storage and brought the concept into the mainstream when it was released in 2015. Tesla has been improving the Powerwall’s design and capabilities ever since. The latest version, the Tesla Powerwall 3, is the most advanced Tesla battery yet, and it’s available now!

Keep reading for a breakdown of the key benefits of the Tesla Powerwall 3 to help you decide whether it’s the right battery backup for your home or building.

Key Features of the Tesla Powerwall 3

The Tesla Powerwall 3 has impressive features that make it one of the best solar battery storage systems on the market today.

High Storage Capacity

The more energy a battery can store, the longer it will last during a power outage. Most home batteries have a storage capacity of about 10 kWh. Tesla Powerwall 3 has a higher storage capacity of 13.5 kWh, so you can keep your essentials running for longer during a power outage. Tesla Powerwall 3 solar batteries are also designed to be stackable and you can combine up to four units for a total storage capacity of 54 kWh, which is a lot more than most homes need.

Seamless Backup Power

A single Tesla Powerwall 3 provides seamless backup power to keep your essential devices and appliances running during a grid outage. You might not even realize a power outage is happening until you see the notification in the Tesla app!

Storm Watch

The Powerwall 3 has a special feature called Storm Watch, which monitors weather conditions. If a storm is coming, your Powerwall will automatically charge to its full capacity, either from your solar panels or from the electric grid, to prepare for a potential power outage.  Even more impressive is that the Tesla Powerwall 3 was designed to operate even if submerged in two feet of water!

Integrated Solar Inverter

Solar batteries store direct current (DC) power but most appliances and the electric grid use alternating current (AC) power. Your battery has an inverter to convert power from AC to DC for storage and back to AC for use. In most home batteries, the battery and the inverter are separate, but in Tesla Powerwall 3, they’re integrated. The integrated inverter allows for a neater installation with fewer components and exposed wires. The battery is also robust and can be installed either indoors or outdoors.

Tesla Powerwall 2 vs Tesla Powerwall 3: What Changed?

The biggest difference between the Tesla Powerwall 3 and previous models (the Powerwall 2 and Powerwall+) is power output. Power output determines how much power a solar battery can deliver to run your devices and appliances. The Tesla Powerwall 2 and Powerwall+ had a continuous power output of 5 kW, which is enough for small loads, but if you want to power multiple appliances, like an induction cooktop and oven at the same time, you need more than that. The Tesla Powerwall 3 has a continuous power output of 11.5 kW, which is more than most homes ever need at once. With the Powerwall 3, you can start and run larger loads, making it easier to get whole-home backup.

Is Tesla Powerwall Worth It?

The Tesla Powerwall 3 has a lot of benefits for homeowners and businesses looking for reliable emergency backup power. It has a higher storage capacity than many other solar battery systems and can power larger loads due to the high continuous power output. It also has a higher price tag, but the Powerwall 3 qualifies for incentives like the 30% federal solar tax credit and, if you install it with solar panels, is exempt from Washington state sales tax.

Cascadia Solar is a Tesla Powerwall Certified Installer and we recommend the Powerwall 3 to many of our customers. But energy storage is not a one-size-fits-all solution. The best battery for your home or business depends on your specific backup power needs and budget. We are not limited by exclusive sales agreements that require us to push a specific product and will always help you choose the products that make the most sense for you.
