Solar Battery Backup

We all know the inconvenience of losing power during a storm and can imagine the safety risks of longer outages due to natural disasters. By installing battery backup for your home or building, you can maintain a steady flow of electricity during grid outages, providing energy security and resilience.

Cascadia Solar proudly installs grid-tied battery backup systems throughout Jefferson, Kitsap, and Clallam counties on the Olympic and Kitsap Peninsulas in Washington State. We can help you decide whether solar battery installation makes sense for your home, business, or organization.

Benefits of Battery Backup for Your Home

Solar battery installation has many benefits, especially when you pair your battery system with residential or commercial solar panels.

Backup Power During Outages

A solar battery will provide emergency backup power to keep some or all of your appliances and devices running during a power outage.

Greater Energy Independence

With a solar battery, you’ll rely less on the electric grid and become more self-sufficient in your energy needs.

Smaller Carbon Footprint

Solar batteries are a cleaner emergency backup power source than gas generators, which burn fossil fuel and must be refueled continuously.

Solar Battery Incentives

Battery storage systems qualify for the 30% federal solar tax credit. If you install solar panels with your battery, your system will also be exempt from state sales tax.

How Solar Battery Storage Works

Solar batteries store electricity for later use. There are three types of solar battery backup systems: 1) grid-tied solar panels with battery backup, 2) standalone solar batteries, and 3) off-grid solar PV systems with batteries.

Grid-Tied Solar Panels with Battery Backup

Grid-tied solar batteries connect to a grid-tied solar panel system. They work by storing electricity generated by your solar panels, which creates a bank of stored energy that can be used during a power outage.

Without backup battery storage, grid-tied solar systems cannot continue to operate if the grid goes down, and you will lose access to your solar power. Backup batteries are a perfect complement to grid-tied solar, unlocking your power when you need it most. If burning fossil fuels isn’t how you want to power your energy future, a solar-powered battery backup system can be a good alternative to a home standby generator.

Standalone Battery Storage Systems

Standalone batteries are not connected to solar panels. Instead, they connect to the main electric grid and can charge from it, creating a bank of stored electricity you can use during a power outage.

Off-Grid Solar PV Systems with Batteries

Off-grid solar energy systems are not connected to the main electric grid. They are an excellent option for homes and businesses in very remote locations that don’t have access to the utility grid. However, Cascadia Solar does not install off-grid solar PV systems.
